TikTok Shop is continuing its rapid European expansion. Since 15 June, the platform's integrated shopping feature has launched in Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Poland, adding to its existing presence in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
As TikTok Shop continues its European rollout, the platform is becoming increasingly difficult for brands to ignore. For supplements in particular, it offers an opportunity to participate in conversations around health, wellness, and self-improvement in a highly engaging environment.
Content-driven customers
Every month, around 200 million Europeans use TikTok to be entertained, discover trends, and find inspiration. TikTok Shop combines this content-driven environment with commerce, allowing users to purchase products directly through videos and livestreams without ever leaving the app.
Unlike conventional online stores, which rely heavily on search behaviour and purchase intent, TikTok Shop is built around discovery. Products often appear unexpectedly on users' feeds and can quickly gain traction through community engagement and creator recommendations. This has created opportunities for niche products to become overnight successes.
Here's how supplements fit into the picture
Health and wellness brands appear to be particularly well positioned. According to NielsenIQ, beauty and wellness products account for 41% of the European TikTok Shop market, making it one of the platform's largest categories.
Within this segment, supplements, vitamins, and oral care products have found a highly engaged audience. Educational content and personal stories perform especially well. Think about creators discussing their fitness journeys, sharing wellness routines, or documenting improvements in their energy levels or skin condition. It provides a form of social reassurance and proof that resonates strongly with TikTok's audience.
The platform's self-improvement culture also plays into the strengths of supplement brands. Rather than focusing on technical product specifications or ingredient lists, successful content places products within a broader lifestyle narrative. A protein powder featured in a morning routine video or a vitamin supplement shown in a "What I eat in a day" post often feels more authentic and relatable than a traditional product advertisement.
How to optimise it
Still, TikTok Shop should not necessarily be viewed as a replacement for established sales channels. Anna Mayo, Vice President of the Beauty Vertical at NielsenIQ, recently told NutraIngredients that the platform primarily functions as a discovery and trial channel for supplement brands. The continuous flow of new content and recommendations makes it easier for brands to reach new audiences and broaden their customer base.
For supplement companies, this distinction is important. TikTok Shop can generate awareness, encourage first-time purchases, and introduce products to consumers who may never have actively searched for them. However, long-term customer relationships and repeat purchases often continue to be driven by other channels, such as brand websites, marketplaces, and retail partnerships.
A valuable bonus
The key is to see TikTok Shop for what it currently is: a complementary channel. It may not replace traditional e-commerce or become the leading sales driver for most supplement brands, but as an additional route for discovery and trial, it could prove to be a valuable bonus in an increasingly crowded digital marketplace.
